JOB SUMMARY

The mission and purpose of this position are to compassionately deliver high-quality service and basic patient care in a professional, caring and cost-effective manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following list represents the primary responsibilities of a Mine Paramedic. The relative importance of these responsibilities may vary from region to region and should be discussed by each Paramedic with his/her supervisor.

MEDICAL DUTIES

  • Evaluates, treats, and stabilizes routine and urgent patients within the scope of practice and standing orders established by the sponsoring physician (EMT3/Paramedic), with expanded scope responsibilities
  • Consult with Medical Director as needed
  • Administer over the counter medications
  • Ordering/restocking of medical supplies
  • Medical health screenings
  • Administering flu shots and maintain proper documentation
  • Paperwork for proper work release, patient care
  • First Aid / First Aid Bag training for all camp and field crews
  • Restocking of First Aid Bags
  • Working with Camp safety for bi-monthly Safety meetings
  • Assess each call situation to determine best course of action and appropriate protocol.
  • Utilize medical equipment and procedures including defibrillator, EKG monitor, oxygen and suction devices, intravenous fluids, CPR and other procedures and medications as required to provide advanced medical care.
  • Develop and utilize triage skills to provide optimal efficiency during calls.
  • Provide patient care according to clinical protocols and safety requirements.
  • Lift and move patients as required to provide optimum care.
  • Act as team leader and take responsibility for scene management as needed.
  • Monitor and maintain the general condition of the work area, keep it clean and stocked to maintain the image of Guardian Flight and GMR.
  • Must stay current with advanced training, instructor credentials, and continuing education.
  • Must successfully complete and remain current with MSHA required courses, participate in mine rescue drills; and must maintain all mine safety policies and complete all safety training.
  • Ability to function independently and be a self-starter in isolated locations that have poor communication and no support agencies.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Possess a valid Driver's License.
  • Current State of Alaska Paramedic or EMT III Certification.
  • Driving record in compliance with GMR policy regarding insurability.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience as a Paramedic/EMT III, with the ability to function beyond the typical "street environment," where treatment may be the priority not transport.
  • Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work independently and as a team member, employ discretion and confidentiality in sensitive areas, read, interpret, and follow instructions.
  • Available to work extended shifts at remote mine sites.
